General Information

Turkish Pharmaceutical Industry

Turkey has a powerful generic pharmaceutical industry with a history of a hundred years which has a high production capacity and which complies with the international standards in terms of its technological infrastructure and human resources. While the production or import of reference drugs with license or as contract manufacturing is conducted in our country, the basic field of activity of our industry is concerned with generic drugs.

R&D in Pharmaceutical Industry

The research and development studies in drugs are laborious, long and expensive processes. R&D covers a development period of approximately 12-15 years from the invention of a drug molecule to the supply of this molecule to the medical service and involves an investment of approximately 800 million dollars made for this molecule. Therefore, drug is an information production industry rather than a branch of the chemical sector, as generally perceived.

The basic objective in pharmaceutical development is to make a change for the better in the lives of the people. With the use of each drug or vaccination, it is required to obtain a preventive or therapeutic effect or an effect reducing the symptoms and signs of the disease.

The pharmaceutical sector needs both reference and generic drugs in order to enhance the life quality of the people.
