Honour Prize at 8th Management Summit goes to Nezih Barut, the Chairman of Abdi İbrahim

The EDUPLUS 8th Management Summit was held at the Sheraton Istanbul Maslak Hotel November 19th, bringing together various key people from the business world. At the summit, Nezih Barut, the chairman of Abdi İbrahim was awarded the Management Summit’s Honour Prize. The Management Prize went to Erdal Karamercan, the CEO of Eczacıbaşı Holding; Hamdi Akın, the CEO of Akfen Holding; and Ali Ağaoğlu, Chairman of the Board of the Ağaoğlu Group of Companies.

Barut delivered a speech at the summit’s special session on “Managerial Perception of the Future” and drew attention to the fact that openness to change, adaptation, and foresight would stand out among the most crucial managerial factors in shaping the future. To continue its 10-year leadership position in the industry, Abdi İbrahim would move forward with individuals swayed by such a perception, he added.

Barut explained the importance of these factors: “Within the framework of the 21st century, adaptation means easy adjustment to changes brought about by technology. We see that one third of the Fortune 500 companies have disappeared in the last 13 years and that the average lifespan of European companies in Germany and France has diminished from 45 to 18 years and 13 to 9 years, respectively. A decreased managerial lifespan hints that we should always be on guard, and, within in this context, I am rightfully proud that we at Abdi Ibrahim will be celebrating our 100th anniversary in two years.”

Drawing from examples in his own life, Barut encouraged participants by pointing out that we should be driven, not by worry but by courage: “It is hardly possible to figure out at this moment how the future will be shaped. But what is possible to discern is how we commit our resources to realize our dreams, and, that making choices compatible with our intentions and goals is related to being courageous and having confidence in our instincts.”
