Exhibition: Schizophrenia from Prehistory to Today – Don’t Look the Other Way

Abdi İbrahim Otsuka has launched the campaign “Don’t Look the Other Way” to raise awareness on schizophrenia. With a series of events planned as part of the campaign, the company hosted the globally acclaimed body painter Trina Merry in Istanbul as part of the October 10 World Mental Health Day, which, in 2014, had the theme of “Living with schizophrenia”. Merry held a workshop with students from renowned painter Yusuf Taktak’s United Arts Department.

As part of the activity, volunteer models had their body painted in the workshop and hid in a scene from Ortaköy, symbolizing the society’s ignorance on the illness. Planning to carry out a series of events in 2015 as part of the campaign, Abdi İbrahim aims share correct information about schizophrenia, a condition that affects one out of every 100 people, in order to raise awareness, and support patients and their families in their struggle against social prejudices.

The exhibition has so far visited Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Kocaeli, with plans to extend to international audiences as well.
