Oğuzcan Bülbül said, “We focus on incorporating the 10 global principles of the Global Compact, which constitute the basis of the 17 sustainable development goals prioritized by the United Nations, into all our business processes, strategies and operations. As a prerequisite to fulfilling our responsibility towards the society in which we live and the world resources of which we utilize, we provide a detailed account of our activities in various fields ranging from environment to investments, employment to social responsibility, in our annual Communication on Progress Report.”
Stating that they considered Abdi İbrahim’s sustainability strategy and business strategies as inseparable parts of a whole, complementing and driving each other, Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül added, “In 2019, a year marked by global and national economic challenges, we were able to continue making investments thanks to our long-term strategic plans safeguarding us from economic fluctuations and our agility in seizing opportunities and responding to threats. During this period, we continued to further bolster our relations with all our stakeholders. We did not compromise on our efforts to invest in our environmental protection projects and achieved
significant savings as a result of the improvement initiatives we deployed across all our business processes. As a company that values individuals' right to health, education, equal opportunities and their right to live in a healthy environment, Abdi İbrahim continued to create social benefits with the research, campaigns, volunteering projects and sponsorships it launched as part of its corporate social responsibility."
Having accelerated its sustainability efforts in 2019, Abdi İbrahim decided to power its chemical drug production facility in Esenyurt, biotechnological drug production facility AbdiBio, R&D Center, unmanned techonologistics center and all auxiliary facilities with 100% renewable energy sources including wind and solar power. Abdi İbrahim will gradually integrate the use of renewable energy, initially launched in its production operations, into the entire value creation journey from the supply process to procuring raw materials, marketing and sales to the end user. Accordingly, Abdi İbrahim aims to have achieved carbon neutrality by 2030.

“We will become a leader in this field with our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance"
Stressing Abdi İbrahim’s plans, driven by its 2025 vision, to further accelerate its sustainability efforts in the upcoming period, Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül said, “Abdi İbrahim’s strategic goals are transitioning to a low-carbon economy, achieving carbon neutrality in 2030, minimizing the environmental and social impact resulting from its operations and creating added value for all its stakeholders in the long term. To serve this end, we design and constantly review all our business processes through the lens of our Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) approach, which we have integrated into the organizational structure of our company. The "Sustainability Committee” monitors and audits the strategies we have created, the goals we have set and the projects we have implemented in line with the ESG criteria at the board level. Our ultimate goal is to leverage our ESG performance to become a leader in this field in both our country and our region. We are looking for collaborations with the best Turkish companies and start-ups at all levels in supply chain and logistics operations with a view to achieving our sustainability goals and in production processes and waste management to facilitate our transition to a cyclical economy. Moreover, we have prioritized taking part in platforms such as CDP and RE100 where our company can share its breakthroughs in sustainability and benefit from the considerable experience of the members of such platforms and obtaining the ‘B Corp Certificate’ as a medium-term goal. At Abdi İbrahim, a 108-year-old Turkish pharmaceutical company boasting a 100 percent domestic capital, we consider it a key responsibility to represent our company on these platforms. Furthermore, we think that achieving these goals will drive more value for the new investments in our future pipeline. As a signatory to the UN Global Compact, we will never compromise on our responsibility to contribute to our planet and future generations. We
will always remain committed to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and prioritize activities that will support these goals.”
About the Global Compact
The United Nations called on the private sector and public institutions around the world to sign the Global Compact in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, which were announced to the public with the signatures of the leaders from 189 countries in 2000. The United Nations Global Compact initiative, which was launched under the leadership of Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nations at the time, is the largest global corporate sustainability initiative with over 12,000 members in over 160 countries, today.
The UN Global Compact, which focuses on ensuring universal standards in the sustainability and corporate responsibility efforts carried out by public and private organizations, strives for achieving global progress with regards to human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. The Global Compact, which proposes to steer the course of globalization in the direction of sustainability and development principles, comprises 10 principles. The signatory organizations declare their voluntary commitment to these 10 principles, designing their strategies accordingly, and disclosing their related activities to the public transparently.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as a roadmap to be completed in 2030 with the aim of ending poverty, protecting our planet and combating inequality and injustice in September 2015. The “2030 Agenda” is founded on these 17 Sustainable Development Goals that offer a clear description of the world we all desire to live in. The Global Compact enables companies around the world to align their strategies and operations with the 10 Principles and guides the business world towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
