Abdi ibrahim leads digital and green transformation in pharmaceuticals with qr code-based electronic product information leaflet

Having launched its first products featuring electronic product information leaflet (e-PIL), Abdi İbrahim initiated a gradual transition across its product portfolio as of June 2026. By taking an early step toward adopting the e-PIL system, Abdi İbrahim has positioned itself among the pioneers of the pharmaceutical industry's digital and green transformation.

As the leader of the Turkish pharmaceutical industry, Abdi İbrahim has implemented its QR Code Project, one of the key milestones in its digital transformation journey. By introducing its first product batches equipped with electronic product information leaflet (e-PIL), the company has ushered in a new era in access to medicine information.

Through this application, which redefines access to information in healthcare, users can access electronic product information leaflet by scanning QR codes printed on medicine packaging. As part of this transition, Abdi İbrahim also aims to gradually phase out printed product information leaflets, reducing paper consumption and carbon emissions while aligning digitalization efforts with environmental sustainability goals.

In line with the regulation introduced by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK), operating under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye, regarding the electronic accessibility of product information leaflets via medicine packaging*, Abdi İbrahim became one of the first companies to implement this transformation.

Except for products exempted under the relevant regulations, the company has initiated a phased transition, starting in June 2026, to QR code-enabled packaging containing only electronic product information leaflets (e-PIL) for eligible products.
Having adopted the e-PIL system ahead of its mandatory implementation date of January 1, 2027, Abdi İbrahim continues to expand the transition across its product portfolio. Through the new system, users will be able to access up-to-date electronic product information leaflets digitally by scanning QR codes on medicine boxes using their smart devices.

M. Oğuzcan Bülbül: “We Are Proud to Fit the Twin Transformation into a Single Box”

Highlighting the project's direct alignment with Abdi İbrahim's HEAL2050 sustainability strategy, Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül, Group Head of Human Resources, Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Abdi İbrahim, said: “Sustainability is an integral part of the way we do business. Every project we implement reflects our multidimensional approach focused on creating shared value. While this project enhances accessibility in healthcare through digitalization and makes information more readily available to users, it also contributes to our low-carbon transformation journey by reducing paper consumption and the associated carbon emissions. We are proud to fit the twin transformation into a single box.”

Approximately 2,500 Tons of CO2e Emissions Reduction Annually

Focused on both digitalization and environmental sustainability, the QR Code Project is fully aligned with Abdi İbrahim’s HEAL2050 Sustainability Strategy and its ambition to become a low-carbon company. Through the gradual elimination of printed product information leaflets, Abdi İbrahim aims to achieve an annual reduction of approximately 2,500 tons of CO2e greenhouse gas emissions.

By reducing paper consumption and lowering its carbon footprint, the initiative contributes to environmental sustainability while supporting Türkiye’s 2053 Net Zero Emissions targets.
