Abdi ibrahim published its sustainability report: our priority is to leave a “good” trace on our community and our world
Continuing its journey of healing with courage, passion and responsibility for 107 years, Abdi İbrahim published its 4th Sustainability Report approved by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) covering its activities and operations in economic, corporate, social and environmental fields.
Striving to heal of lives touched by it since the year 1912 and acting in contemplation of the fact that the world is a property borrowed by us from the future generations, Abdi İbrahim is focused continuously on “healing” in its all business activities. With its past of 107 years and ongoing sector leadership of 17 years, Abdi İbrahim is laying bare in its Sustainability Report its past development and progress process and its steps taken resolutely both in Turkey and all over the world.

Focused on sustainable success since the very first day
Focused on sustainable success since the very first day of its foundation, Abdi İbrahim is conducting its works and activities in corporate, social, environmental and economic fields in a systematic manner together with its internal and external stakeholders. Trying to create a difference by focusing on correct points in the day by day complicated world of needs and requirements, the Company is presenting its ongoing development processes and the conclusions derived out of them by its sustainability reports to the attention of both its stakeholders and the public in general.
After becoming a participant of United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as of 2010, Abdi İbrahim is focused on performing its sustainability works and initiatives within the frame of 10 global principles and is publishing its Progress Statement every year.
Continuously taking forward steps for self-development in the sustainability field, Abdi İbrahim is presenting its sustainability reports to the attention of the public in general since 2013. This report issued with an approach integrated with the requirements of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards: Basic Principles and United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) is comprised of qualitative and quantitative data and information collected from head offices, facilities and field organization units of Abdi İbrahim.
In its 4th Sustainability Report covering 2017 – 2018 period, Abdi İbrahim is reporting the projects performed in a systematic and comprehensive manner together with internal and external stakeholders in the light of the significance, materiality and stakeholder participation principles of GRI, UNGC and WEPs reporting requirements, as well as the data in corporate, economic, human resources and environmental fields.
“Sustainability is an integral part of our business strategy”
“We see the sustainability strategy of Abdi İbrahim as one of the parts of a whole together with, completed by and feeding its business strategies,” says Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül, Abdi İbrahim Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Director, and adds: “We are well aware of the responsibility assumed by us for a healthier society and a more habitable and liveable world. We are uninterruptedly continuing our investments believing in the strength and future of our country and in the potential of the Turkish pharmaceuticals industry to the foundation of which we have had made a great contribution. After emphasizing that both in Turkey and in all of its other markets, Abdi İbrahim is working in cooperation with private sector and non-governmental organizations within the frame of its basic principle and motto of “healing life” and is attaching importance not only to economic factors but also to social and environmental factors, Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül continued to say: “We, as Abdi İbrahim, are striving resolutely in line with our corporate citizen vision. One of the initiatives guiding us in our sustainability efforts is the United Nations Global Compact signed by us in 2010. Another initiative, Global Reporting Initiative, is also shedding light on our sustainability efforts. As a company placing emphasis on support and employment of women, we have also signed Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) of the United Nations aiming to make sure that women take their part and play their role in economic life in all market sectors and at all levels in 2017. In the experience of more than a century of Abdi İbrahim, women employees have always constituted an important centre of force. We are proud of laying stress on the fact that our women employees have had a significant contribution in each attempt and step taken in the history of Abdi İbrahim starting from our founder generation. Abdi İbrahim is one of the pioneers in business world in terms of gender mainstreaming (social gender equality). At present, in our corporation, rate of women employees is 32 percent, and rate of women managers is 36 percent. It is our goal to further increase these rates.”

NUMBER OF OUR EXPORT DESTINATIONS EXCEEDED 60
Being the leader of the Turkish pharmaceuticals industry since the year 2002, Abdi İbrahim also gradually increased its efficiency in the international markets. Abdi İbrahim has not only increased the number of its export destinations above 60, but also regularly enriched its product portfolio to make its achievements sustainable for ever, and uninterruptedly continued its R&D investments in that direction.
In tandem with its 2025 strategy works, Abdi İbrahim is planning to continue its growth both in the Turkish market and in its focal marketplaces through many different strategies and aims to further strength its global existence also in the international markets through its partnership-based subsidiaries and via strategies focused on both existing and targeted markets.
At the same time, Abdi İbrahim, aiming to grow by making investments in biotechnology and consumer healthcare fields with high added value, will focus on the Turkish market leadership and on globalization of its brands and trademarks also in these fields. As one of the largest areas of success of its 2020 strategy, production services will constitute an important part of Abdi İbrahim’s targets and objectives in the Turkish and international markets.
MAINTAINED ITS DOMESTIC MARKET LEADERSHIP
Abdi İbrahim, taking firm steps forward its goals of increasing its international sales volume and continuing its growth in domestic market by adding new competences to both its facilities and its organizational capacity, maintained its domestic market leadership. It not only increased the number of its products and brands, but also made a great contribution to overall employment. And Abdi İbrahim increased its income from targeted countries in international markets in 2018 by 19 percent over 2016.
After laying the foundation of Sterile Ophthalmology and Sterile Inhalation Production Facility and Hormone Production Facility in 2017, the Company opened AbdiBio, the largest biotechnological production facility of Turkey, in 2018. At the same date, Abdi İbrahim laid the foundation of Sterile Injectable and Oncology Products Production Facility as well.
Completing the development works of 71 products up to the marketing authorization stage in 2017-2018 period, Abdi İbrahim received marketing authorization for the first biosimilar product of Turkey in 2018. Furthermore, the Company was also awarded ISO 13485:2016 certificate for wound dressing developed for chronic wounds together with the Aegean University.
SELECTED “GLOBAL 100 PHARMACEUTICALS SECTOR NUMBER-ONE”
Putting its signature on a lot of successful projects in 2017, Abdi İbrahim was also awarded “Global 100 Pharmaceuticals Sector Number-One” prize. Furthermore, in the Ideal Employer Survey, it is ranked first among the “Best Companies for Working in Pharmaceuticals Sector”.
In the Corporate Social Responsibility Survey of Capital Magazine, in top 20 list of Corporate Social Responsibility of the year 2017, Abdi İbrahim was ranked the 10th under “in the Eyes of People” category and the 5th in the “Healthcare” category.
Giving support to the “Grandmother Project” initiated by T.R. Ministry of Labour and Social Security with a view to supporting woman employment, the Company assumed the social aids to be given to 500 families.
As a part of its Rational Drug Use Campaign initiated in the year 2012 to fight against unconscious use of drugs, Abdi İbrahim performed its second survey in 2017 and shared the results of its survey with public and continued its public awareness works.
AWARDED “LEADERSHIP IN VALUE TO HUMAN” PRIZE
In 2018, in the 10th Value to Human Prizes, Abdi İbrahim was awarded the greatest prize: “Leadership in Value to Human”. With AbdiBio, the Company was awarded the “Biotechnology Investment” prize in the 9th Gold Mortar Prizes. In addition, with its Rational Drug Use Campaign, the Company was awarded a prize in “Drug Industry of the Year Prizes – Social Responsibility Project of the Year” category in Doktorclub Awards.
THE FIRST AND SINGLE PHARMACEUTICALS COMPANY WINNING THE GREEN POINT INDUSTRY AWARD
Being the first and single pharmaceuticals company winning the Green Point Industry Award of ÇEVKO, Abdi İbrahim is regularly completing its environmental protection investments and putting its signature on exemplary environmental practices.
Having created a “Forest of Hope” by planting 5 thousand saplings in the name of doctors in a forest zone chosen in Lapseki / Çanakkale as a part of a project conducted for a product of it, Abdi İbrahim is relying upon the principles of protection and continuous recovery of environment and efficient use of natural resources in all of its business operations acting in contemplation of the fact that the world is a property borrowed by us from the future generations. In 2017, Abdi İbrahim saved 43,225 m³ natural gas and 3,481,200 kWh electricity, and in 2018, it saved 917,903 kWh electricity. In addition, again in 2017, it saved 47m³ water by increasing number of campaigns in certain products and reducing microbiological tests at 7 water points. In 2018, its water saving was 1,050 m³. In 2017 and 2018, 12,283 kg paper was saved by changing design of parcels of certain products, thereby preventing the cutting down of 204 trees in total.
